Annual Dinner Dance

The annual dinner and dance was a fantastic success, members and their guests were overwhelmingly complimentary of the event. The Chairman thanked in particular, Malcolm Jarrett (Social Secretary) and Dusty Miller (Treasurer & Secretary) for their hard work in organising and preparing the event. Our President, Lt. Colonel David Watson RM (retd.) and his wife Jane were guests of honour, the Colonel gave a short speech which was warmly received by members and the ultra talented Tony Martin gave the performance of his life. The catering was provided by River Caterers and was to a standard that really did (pleasantly) surprise and a generous whip-round was made for the servers who were excellent. Matt Curtis provided us with a superb public address system free of charge and it worked perfectly. At the first committee meeting following the dinner, it was decided that we would write a letter of thanks to the caterers, to Matt Curtis and to Tony Martin in recognition of the high quality of service and (in Matt's case) their generous sponsorship of our event. The raffle was absolutely fantastic and the generosity of our members and their guests was awesome, there were so many prizes ranging from tickets for dinner for two in one of the best local restaurants, champagne (real champagne - honest!) malt whisky, and enough wine and spirits to fill an off-licence plus the odd gadget or two. The raffle was vital to us as the association had to an extent provided the whole evening at slightly under cost, the final sums added up to an overall profit of almost £300.

Members and their guests were treated to a variety of the old classics very professionaly delivered (in voice) by the one and only Tony Martin, and much dancing followed a wonderful dinner. My only regret was that I never really got much chance to dance with my wife (thankyou Chunky!! Grrrr....!) and indeed with the charming Mrs. Watson.....(if you read this Jane I promise to rectify this at the next social function!).

In conclusion, I would just like to say that the association has shown itself to be a vibrant and relevant organisation with every intention to continue to pursue it's aims, look back just 12 months ago and it was very much a different matter. We are currently looking at the possibility of organising a trip to the Menin Gate at Ypres and there is also the possibility of a rather less formal dinner in the Deal area prior to the Christmas rush. I would like to thank all members and their guests for their loyalty and support of the association, and look forward to seeing you all at the next knee's up.

Cordially yours.
Geoff Dunne
